Showered

August 22, 2010

Today I’m hungry for gratitude.

A group of our close family friends threw us a wedding shower Saturday night.  And then I cropped them all out of this picture. ;)

Our mamas.

Fun decorations.

I made myself a hearty late afternoon snack because I knew I’d be busy at the party, the menu was meat-heavy and I didn’t want to show up starving at 7:00PM.  The party was catered by La Hacienda Ranch and the majority of guests drank margaritas.  Tequila goes straight to my head so I went with my standard Chardonnay and chatted with friends and family for just about every minute of the 3-hour party.  I wish there were more food shots but someone else was on camera duty.

Passed appetizers. Cheese-stuffed jalapenos and beef tacos.  People seemed to really like them.

The buffet with enchiladas, beef and chicken fajitas, rice, beans, chips & queso. On an adjacent table: guacamole, jalapenos, shredded cheese, salsa and sour cream.

Those are my sisters above! One on the far left and the other on the far right. Brunette beauties.

Wish I had more photos with both sisters. They are my heart. Truly. I’m the youngest of the three.

A closer shot of me and the middle sister. Doesn’t she look like a doll? ♥

I honestly didn’t have a bite of food until 9:00 PM.  Just one of those things.

I made a rice + beans + guacamole mess with tortilla chips. I ate this times about 4.

It’s humbling, almost embarrassing, for us to accept so many gifts.  I mean, really?

And more that came in the mail.

We are incredibly fortunate to have so many supportive, loving people in our lives.

We loved all of our gifts (the genius of registries) but these are some of our favorites!

The 9-cup Cuisinart, the Mini-Prep (obsessed) and the 7-speed Blender.

And some fun sushi dishes and noodle bowls.

Lots of leftovers.

Yesterday, I ate rice and beans all day long while writing thank you notes.  With about a million blue corn tortilla chips.  And by dinnertime, my body was desperate for veggies!

Spinach, shredded zucchini, shredded carrots, red cabbage, red bell pepper and a few pieces of baked tofu.

All chopped up.

Added some carrot ginger dressing.

My body thanked me.

Yesterday was a rest day.  I’m off to run 5 miles this morning.  It’s already 85 degrees but I’m happy to report that the temperatures are about to drop in Dallas.  I’ll have mornings in the 70s for the rest of the week.  Yay!

Did you have a good weekend?  What was your favorite part?

Mine was the shower.  And coming home afterward to open all of the presents with Billy. It’s hard to believe, yet so exciting, that we will be getting on a plane to Europe 3 weeks from this afternoon!!

Be still my beating heart. How beautiful! Crate & Barrel boxes are always a good sign.

Glad you had great friends and family to share in your joy. I can’t get over their dark hair, but then I see your mom and I see where you get your beautiful color from!

What a hawt pic of you and Billy.

3 weeks will fly by, enjoy every second.

Got back from the beach, SO wish I was still there:(

Thanks Nichole! Isn’t it funny – my sisters look so much alike and they always have. I’m the odd ball. I can’t believe it’s just 3 weeks away but I’m so excited. I’m outfit planning and working on packing strategies. :)

The genius of Registering at Crate & Barrel!! I can only imagine the fun things you have yet to experiment with in the kitchen ;)

Enjoy those cooler temps! Your 5 milers will start to feel easier and eeeasier.

I’m so excited for the cooler temps – I knew that starting my running this summer would end up being beneficial once the temps dropped. Perfect timing to increase my mileage. :)

I LOVE receiving packages in the mail, and those C&B boxes would always be welcome!! :) I am now coveting your noodle bowls… perhaps one day I’ll eat out of one at your house :)

We had a beautiful weekend… took a 3 day trip to the beach for some MUCH NEEDED relaxation. My favorite part was sitting on the balcony of our hotel watching (and listening to) the sea lions arp arp arp… :)

It was a lot of fun – just the right amount of people so I could actually chat with everyone there. If you ever make it to Dallas or wherever Billy and I end up, we will definitely use the bowls! Better yet, if we come to Portland, I’ll just bring them with me for our sushi date. :)

Sounds like y’all had an incredible weekend. Hope you feel refreshed!!

Soak up the next three weeks – it’s such a sweet time, but goes so fast!

The best part of my weekend was my Friday night date with the husband – dinner, roadside photography and a movie:)

So fun! Enjoy all of the pre-wedding madness and soak up all the warmth and well wishes from your friends and family. That is the best part! (Besides, you know, getting married.) Your family really knows how to put on a good spread, btw. I am drooling over those jalapeno poppers. Of course.

Happy Shower! I totally agree about it being humbling and embarrassing to receive wedding gifts. Even after several showers, I never got used to it. Just remember that you will buying lots of gifts for others in the future (and probably already have) and that it’s simply a sign of their excitement for you! It looks like it was a blast!
