With all of my goal talk from yesterday, I realized it was time for me to bust out the 2nd 10 things for my 30 before 30 list. I published the first 10 last September, and still have a ways to go before I turn 30 in October.
Here’s the 1st 10:
- Bake bread – Bird’s Beginner Bread
- Buy a bike – Bicycles: Then and Now
- Host a dinner party with everything made from scratch
- Meet Kristina, aka Spabettie!
- Try a new physical activity – Dallas Rocks, Indoor Rock Climbing
- Complete a half marathon – Rocked the Rock, Part 1 and Part 2
- Make homemade pasta
- Road trip with Billy 10+ hours
- No alcohol for 1 month – Booze-Free Bird
- Call my grandmother (at least) once a week <—so far, so good
![]()

And the newly added 2nd 10:
- Run 2nd half marathon and set a new PR (March 27th)
- Paint a piece of artwork for our home
- Try Cross-Fit
- Master a go-to homemade snack/energy bar that I love
- Travel somewhere outside the country (last time was honeymoon)
- Snorkel in the ocean (did this almost everyday when we lived in Belize)
- Take Billy to the restaurant he’s been talking about for years that we’ve never been to
- Face my fear of swimming – I might recruit my new friend to help me with this one
- Go on a date with my sisters – just the 3 of us
- Read a book each month starting in March up until October
So there you have it. I need to get busy. Some of these excite me. Some intimidate me. But I believe that a fulfilling life begins with a physical and mental challenge.
Who’s with me? Do you have any such list?
If so, what’s one thing on your list? If not, what’s one thing you’d add to it?
What’s one accomplished, big or small, that you are proud of? Brag!

oh, thanks for sharing your next 10 goals, dorry! i loved reading them!! i esp like your list because of the diversity: it’s not like you have all JUST fitness goals, or cooking challenges…such a range of personal experiences and with billy, friends, family. can’t wait to see the order in which you tackle them!
i am doing something similar: the “1970 kiki project” for 2011 is to have 41 new experiences. i am working on my cake decorating class this month, and also am still sporting my fake fingernails, for example! these projects are making me laugh and i’m really enjoying finding new things.
have a great day!

Thanks Cathy! It was a fun list to make. I think your 1970 kiki project sounds awesome. I would love to take a cake decorating class, or another cooking class of some sort. I’ll have to remember that when I make the last 10 for my list.
I still LOVE that I am BIRD’S NUMBER FOUR on the original list… you are so one of My Favorites… <3
I have #2 on your new list – Jason said (last year) that he wanted me to paint Basil… (he has not seen much from my art school days!) so for Valentines I painted him two Basil portraits… <3

Yes! The 3 of us together would be a grand event! We’ll have to get working on that…time’s a ticking to complete my list.
I LOVE that you painted Basil – so awesome. I’m not sure what I’ll paint – most likely a big ole abstract canvas of beautiful colors to hang above our couch in the living room. I need to start looking around for some inspiration. xo

Dorry were you still planning on Portland in August?
I could come down there and see BOTH of you !! J + I are WAY overdue for a trip to Austin…

I’m really excited to see what you paint & how you come up with the idea
I have a 30 before 30 list too… only 28 to go, haha. The next ones I want to knock off are “visit San Fransisco” “run a 1/2 marathon” and “grow a garden”!
I love the idea of mastering a homemade snack bar… I can’t wait to follow along as you create one!

I’m so glad you have a list, too! It keep things exciting. I’ve been to San Francisco once and I fell in love with it! I hope you get to visit sometime soon.
A garden – that’s a really good one!!
I have 30 before 30 list, even though I will be 33 this April, but it’s nice to look back on it and it gets me motivated to keep crossing things off the list.
Your list looks great – really well balanced!!!! You can do it ALL!!!

Thanks for your enthusiasm! I still need to add 10 more.
I think it’s great that you’re still checking things off yours…is having a baby on there?
Hope you’re feeling well!
can I join you in number 3 and 4? Would love that! And for the new additions, swimming is awesome. I love your vision Dorry. So inspiring! Can’t wait to catch up soon.
Cheers!

Of course you can join for #3 & #4! I’ll be coming to check out swimming tips from you and the hubs soon.
This list is all over the place, what a fun way to stay busy until October!
I hope you master that go-to homemade bar, I’d love a good/easy recipe for that. And I’m anxious to see what you think of CrossFit…that is a Butt kicker!

I know Cross Fit is going to really take me out of my comfort zone and I’m excited for the challenge. I know so many people who love it!
I love the 30 Before 30 list! I have my very own x While x list that I do each year. I love breaking out of my shell to try new things!
Erin recently posted..Happy President’s Day!
I love that you have one each year…definitely something I want to continue into my 30s, too. It will be fun to look back at everything in 10, 20, 30 years, etc.
I love the idea of this! I think I’ll start working up a list. I’ll publish it in May on my 29th birthday to help keep me accountable for my goals.
Ryan has been trying to get me to do indoor rock climbing for awhile. I should plan a secret date and just do.it.
Stephanie recently posted..Skinamarinky Dinky Dink Skinamarinky Doo
Yes! I hope you’ll create a list. It’s fun and really gets you thinking. You can add indoor rock climbing to yours!
I can help you with books, CrossFit, and snack bar! I have posts I can send for those. Which dallas restaurant are you talking about?
Yes! I’d love your suggestions! We’ve never been to Abacus and Billy talks about it all the time. We’ve even made plans to go in the past for a birthday or special occasion, but for some reason we always end up going somewhere else!
What a fabulous idea!!! I think if I tried to list out everything I wanted to do before age 30, it would be 30 pages long. I try to write goals every couple of months or so, since my situation and interests change so often. One goal that’s not going away: Run my first half marathon
Kelli @ Howdy from NYC recently posted..Toddlers & Tiaras – Firsthand Experience
I hear ya about your interests changing! I think making my list in 3 parts helped with that.
So excited for your goal of running a half marathon – I had such a great experience with my 1st one.
I love this list and concept! If you have any questions about swimming (or just need some tips and motivation!) let me know!
Thanks Kate! I’ll need all the tips and motivation I can get with swimming.
I wish I had a goal list like this!!! I wish I would have done that before I turned 30! At the end of my 20′s I was too busy having babies. Now, I have done a 360 in my early 30′s and I have already changed so much. The one thing on my list is to run in a race (March 27th)!
It’s not too late to make a list now! It’s remarkable how much we can change over the years. I’m so excited that we’re running the same race!
you are beautiful
!
This makes me think of my “List” and I cannot comment on what I need to do until I pull it out! But, I do want to add your to do of reading a book once a month. I used to read a whole lot more and now have really just dropped off with it!

I’ve never been a big reader, but I’m looking forward to choosing books that truly interest me! Excited to see your list if you post it.
I can’t wait to see your artwork…I can’t wait to see you embrace swimming (I love it! My advice? Don’t think of it as exercise and start SMALL. Like a kid in a pool, just swim. Don’t workout) and I really am eager too see what books you read. I read a TON.
Once I find out what you like I can give you some recs.
Missy Miller recently posted..I Have a Drinking Problem
That’s great advice, Missy! Seriously – it’s going to be baby steps at the beginning. I’m secretly hoping that I surprise myself and am a better swimmer than I’m imagining…
I want to read about nutrition, running and biographies!…hmmmm
Girl you are in such good shape!! I am going to run my first marathon this spring (hopefully:)), and I can’t wait! I really ought to make a list like this, it would make my life a bit more goal-oriented and organized:)
Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn recently posted..THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
Aww, thanks Katelyn! Very exciting about your marathon this spring! Running is currently my very favorite thing.
You are inspiring me to get out and live life! And do things I don’t regularly do. Thank you! In fact, I’ve been taking more and more photos for different people, and when I get really nervous and start to doubt my self, I think of you! I channel my inner Dorry and tell myself that I can do it, and it really really helps. So thank you! (Did you know that you are a really great life coach?)
Also, I just tried the KIND bars and am in love.
Emily recently posted..In Charge
I love KIND bars, too!
Em – this comment made me blush. I am so excited that you are getting some photography experience outside your house and kiddos. You are truly talented. Embrace it. I think the world of you. It’s true.
I don’t have a 30 before 30, but I feel like I should make a 40 before 40 because I want to accomplish my biggest goal- to have a family- between 30 and 40. Other than that, a huge item on my life list is to take the MIR submersible to the Titanic wreck site. I’m a nerd, I know!!
I love that you aren’t in a rush to get married and have kids. I know you have so many things you want to accomplish in your 20s. You can make a list for 30 AND 40!
I also want to try CrossFit! I think heavy lifting is so beneficial for our bodies.
And I justtt made a homemade protein bar that I love! I want to play around with it and make several flavor variations.
One of my goals is to stay up to date on world affairs. I have made vast improvements but I still sometimes go a few days without reading Al Jazeera and then it gets daunting to catch up! It needs to stay a daily thing.
Lauren recently posted..A phyllo-fail and guiltless cookie dough…
I’m with you on the world affairs. Billy is usually my source of the latest world news, but I need to spend a bit more time reading about current events…instead of healthy living/food blogs.
I cannot WAIT for our date. How on earth could anything be better than prime-sister-time..
I am not a cheap date. Just wanted to be upfront..
Looooooove you
:):)
Yessssss! You are so high maintenance. You with your grilled chicken salad and water.
But seriously, the 3 of us need a date. When has that EVER happened??
I love you so much.
My favorite healthy granola bar option is from Jenna’s site – eatliverun. Look under her receipe page for Yogi bars! They are so easy to make and filled with healthy yummies!
