one way or another.

February 23, 2012

I didn’t mean to keep the suspense about where we are moving, but for the sake of our goals & work-related details, we haven’t definitively known until quite recently when we made the decision. but I’m ready to say it now:

we are moving to New York City on April 4th! our most recent trip there for Billy’s birthday really solidified our feelings about the matter. we moved to Belize via Dallas in October 2009 when Billy’s lease was up in Tribeca, and we always had a “one way or another” plan tucked away in our brains about moving back to Manhattan.

the time is now! well, “now” meaning 6 weeks from yesterday

we both love New York City, and we both feel more creative, inspired, and alive there.

something we’ve been scheming about for months:

we are road-tripping to NYC from Dallas. we will leave on April 4th and head across the southeastern United States, making a couple of stops on our way to Augusta, Georgia where we’ll attend the final round of the Masters Golf Tournament on Easter.

then we’ll continue the road trip sweeping through Richmond, Washington D.C. & Philadelphia before pulling into NY. it will be a different experience to drive a car in Manhattan, but we’ll sell it shortly after we arrive and unpack in our new home.

so there it is! I’ll be blogging throughout the road trip and transition to our new city. blogging while traveling is one of my most treasured aspects of keeping this blog. this new chapter in our lives and marriage will undoubtedly teach us a lot and open up new opportunities that we don’t even know about yet. I hope you’ll come along!

have you ever moved across the country? to a different country?

what is the farthest you’ve ever lived from your hometown?

we lived in Belize for a short time which is ~1,200 miles from Dallas. New York City is ~1,500 miles from Dallas so that’s the winner in this mileage contest!

…I may or may not have just gasped out loud (at work). Seriously?! YES! I am sooo excited! :) Know that you have a place to stay in DC, as long as you don’t mind small, city-style apartments, hah.

Can’t wait for you guys to take on the next adventure!

so exciting! Billy and I have never been to D.C. – we’ll have our bikes on the back of the car, and it seems we might make it right in time for the cherry blossoms. we’re moving to NYC – definitely don’t mind small apartments. ;) will email you more to discuss. xo

  2. Congratulations bird! I will miss you but can’t wait to read about your adventures in NYC!

How exciting!! have fun with the move! when we were there last week, we drove from my uncle’s house in Westport, Ct. to our hotel in Midtown. It was a nightmare!! late morning traffic on a monday. so random. hopefully you can find a good parking spot and don’t have to drive that much – maybe eventually sell the car!
we what neighborhood are you guys moving to? we’ll be back in NY again soon, so we’ll see you when we are there!!

oh, wow!!! i am so happy for you and billy, dorry, because your excitement is evident in this email – both for the move to nyc and for the road trip. ALL THE BEST as you prepare to transition from dallas to nyc (of course, i must say i am a tad sad you won’t be becoming an honourary canadian in vancouver!). that is wonderful that you will see the master’s – my dad would be so jealous! the furthest i have lived from home is in chicoutimi, quebec, 3rd year uni. it was a 10 hour drive from home. i do love road trips!! best was to moab, utah and colorado for three weeks!

Oh, and to answer your question? We moved to New Zealand for several months, and depending on where life takes us…maybe will move to the other side of the world one day! ;-) Take care, my friend, wishing you SO much joy and many adventures! xyx
