weekend march: marriage

March 5, 2012

our days in Dallas are numbered (30!), and we have a lot to do & many people to see in a month’s time. with all the lists, emails, job-related tasks, appointments, etc., we are remembering to make it a priority to spend time together. just the 2 of us!

I got off work an hour early on Saturday afternoon, so we headed down to the opening festival of a new bridge in Dallas.

the most gorgeous of days!

a proper street festival with live music, food trucks, and plenty of beverages.

then a stop by bar belmont for a drink with a view:

we unwound. we connected. we chatted about our upcoming adventure & the things we are looking forward to on our road trip. <—seriously so excited it’s silly.

an afternoon snack – the roasted cabrito (goat!) & fresh masa with goat’s milk cajeta & green apple salsa. isn’t it pretty?

this weekend, I also stopped to smell the flowers, and I treated myself to the {more} expensive bar of salted almond dark chocolate. just because.

each day that I’m alive, my goal is to be present & to enjoy life. there are many moments when I fail miserably at do not achieve that goal, but one of the best influences in my life is spending 1-1 time with Billy. he is so present to the moment.

how do you find your presence?

when was the last time you treated yourself?

Gorgeous pictures! What a unique addition to the city :)

There were quite a few things that interrupted our “routine” (if there ever was one? not sure about that…ha) last year, and it took me a while to realize that one Big thing that was missing was time together. Just the 2 of us. You two always serve as a good reminder of how important it can be, AND how fun ;)

Can’t wait til your road trip brings you through DC!!

such a unique addition! Dallas is really expanding in many ways…right in the heart of the city. it’s quite impressive. there’s a great big park being built as well…but it can’t compare to Central Park. ;)

quality 1-on-1 time with Billy is crucial! love that connection…and everything is fun with B.

Gorgeous pics!! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the last month of your “life” in Dallas. So fun to be that present in life, huh?

it is fun! hours and days and weeks can fly by if we don’t stop to slow down for a minute and connect with people & places around us.

Oh I AGAIN love this message. Be present. I struggle with this too but feel as though I accomplished that this weekend as well. Oh, and if you haven’t had it, you must try arctic char, it is so reminiscent of salmon, but more mild in flavor. We made it this weekend and it was divine! I don’t think I’ve had it before, but it’s a new fave! I thought of you ;-)

I don’t think I’ve ever had arctic char, but Billy is so good at cooking fish – we’ll have to get some!

Ah, what glorious sunshine!
And what a wonderful weekend – yes, SO important for you and billy to enjoy time together in this frenzied month – all about balancing couple time with friends and family, right?
Be present and enjoy life – that will be my mantra today. Thanks, dorry!

the weather has been incredible here! very warm & sunny. I think there’s some rain in the forecast later this week, but we need it. hope you’re having a wonderful day, Cathy!

fun day! that bridge reminds me of the St Louis Arch! your 30 days are going to go FAST! :D making sure you see and do what you want to before leaving will be so fun.

TODAY is my treating myself day… I slept in! I “took the day off” from being with Dad, my first in a long time, because he is feeling great lately. we even have a doctors appointment, but he will be driving himself! this makes me so happy and I feel okay about taking a day for me. Jason has been in Missouri and is flying home as I type this… so Basil and I are cleaning the house and going to pick him up this afternoon. we’re going to one of our favorite restaurants for dinner :)

the bridge design is really impressive and very pretty! you said it right – 30 days is going to fly by, and I won’t be able to keep putting off the little packing/organizing to-dos for much longer. ;) …as I sit here reading blogs & responding to comments…shhhhh.

I’m so glad you had yesterday “off”, and I’m sure you had a wonderful night with Jason back at home! :)
