we headed out of the city on Sunday after lunchtime.

our destination: a friend’s family home in the lovely town of New Canaan, CT.
we spent the night at our friend’s beautiful childhood home.

it was great to soak up the serene environment.

Billy made homemade corn tortillas, and tortilla chips to go with salsa and guacamole.

our time in New Canaan included a lot of great food, wine, some lawn games – bocce ball & soccer, tennis, hilarious conversation, and fun with friends.

we took the train back into the city last night, and we are ready for a new week!

what is your favorite summertime city?
Billy and I want to visit as many cities as possible in the NE. on my list: Cape Cod, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard area of Massachusetts. I’d also love to visit Boston (to see these sisters!), and somewhere in Maine.
hope your week is off to a great start!

YESSSSS!! Come visit us in Boston OR better yet – come visit us at the lakehouse in MAINE! Knock off two spots on one trip! I think that’s a genius idea if I do say so myself.
Maybe we can get the Cotters to join us!
PS. I loooooove homemade tortilla chips, Scott makes them now and then as a treat in the deep frier. I swear he and Billy are cut from the same cloth, I love it!

that would be so much fun!!!!! can you imagine? I love that Scott makes homemade tortilla chips – they are so much tastier/fresh. I love them. I desperately need to catch up on my blog reading – I’ve been out of the loop with new job & travel! xo
I live in RI and you have to add Newport on your list of must sees. Also, my boyfriend and I just returned from a NE road trip and you should also check out New Hampshire. Hiking in the White Mountains was something else. Maine (Camden and Bar Harbor) was gorgeous as well, but even during the week at the end of the off season, it was pretty busy. The fresh lobster and ocean air made up for it.
thanks for the rec! I’ll absolutely add Newport to the list. this whole part of the country is new to us, and we are open to anything.
I love hiking and definitely want to get somewhere I can get that in. thanks again for the tips!
I was just about to say what Jess did – visit us AND come to Maine! Knock both off! That would be amazing. Seriously, say the word, and the door is WIDE OPEN
I drooled when I saw the instagram pic on the guac and chips…so yum!

yes, yes, yes! we should do that! it would be such a blast. I’m going to chat with Billy – we need to have a good look at our calendar this summer and start planning these things! xo
That looks like such a fun and beautiful weekend! <3 I love all your photos, they capture the spirit and space so perfectly – absolutely gorgeous, vibrant, stunning and bright!
Although I am a little apprehensive about the Olympic influx of people. Hmmm…it's gonna be FULL in London, that's for sure!
I am loving London in the summertime, because there are parks and green spaces to go bike riding and picnic-ing in, and take wonderful strolls in the sunshine…and then a multitude of beautiful city spaces and buildings to roam through, and discover! Not to mention all the cafes/food and drink spaces to lounge in with refreshments.
We haven't moved yet, but I've been commuting in for work, and soaking up the London buzz – and I am so excited to spend summer in London!
Glad you and Billy had such a picture-perfect weekend! <3

yolie, my friend! I bet London is wonderful right now. I wish we could come over for a visit! we’re keeping London on our radar for a trip in the next year. I hope you get to move soon so you can stop the long commute, and really settle into life in London. hope you’re having a great week, beautiful friend! xo
How far is CT from NYC?
Here in Oklahoma, the places to go in the summer are definitely simply the lake. Small town, big beautiful lakes.

there’s nothing wrong with a good trip to the lake! love those weekends. it only took 45 minutes to drive from here to New Canaan – pretty incredible! we didn’t hit any traffic which was nice. the train took a little over an hour on the way back.
