I saw this on the walk home Sunday afternoon and stopped to snap a photo.

happiness is pool time with friends on a Summer Friday (office closes at 1:00pm), followed by taro chips with guacamole, and blueberries all day everyday.

happiness is heading out on Saturday night to meet friends for dinner.

(we dined at Vinegar Hill House in Brooklyn – amazing food. highly recommended.)

happiness is a playful husband who makes every occasion fun, even waiting for over an hour for a table.

happiness is an impromptu get together with friends on Sunday afternoon to watch the Euro Cup – go Spain!

happiness is working for a company that delivers fresh flowers to my desk each week.
it’s been about 3 months since we left Dallas, and so much has happened in that time. new city, leaving my job with lululemon, the accident, a new job at Integrative Nutrition, a lot of fun with new friends, and exploring NYC with B.
there have been stressful moments (expense from the accident), homesick moments (missing my family), frustrating moments (my bike being stolen), and so on (I’m still really hard on myself at times). I have a level of happiness, based on consistent thoughts of gratitude, that I never want to lose. it takes effort.
some days the happiness comes with more ease than others. but at the end of the day, if you’re doing something you love, spending time with people you love, and making healthy choices for your life, happiness is inevitable.
you just have to remember to acknowledge it.
how’s your happiness these days?

Happiness comes in impromptu moments, I totally agree with this one, as we had SO many of those this past week on vacation. Sometimes those moments are the best and are so hidden, until you do acknowledge them and then realize WHY they were so happy (in this case – being impromptu and unplanned!). I love your message at the end, and how you are also working on maintaining happiness, and sharing your personal feelings about it lately, with the move and the ups and downs and everything in between. Happiness takes work sometimes but it is always worth finding those little things, isn’t it? ((hug))
My happiness is a work in progress, a practice, a discipline…an art form.
Taro chips make me SUPER happy though. That works in a pinch.

I just have to say I am blessed to have you in my life, to call you a friend.
you HAVE had some not so great things happen these past couple months, but the way you view them is refreshing and healthy. I love that you have Billy to point out the positives (I have one of those too), and together your outlook and attitudes are awesome.
“happiness is a playful husband who makes every occasion fun, even waiting for over an hour for a table” <– I am SO HAPPY you have this in Billy! I am giddy happy about that, because I KNOW how fun and good it is… I have that in Jason and it is The Best Thing.
love you!

This is such a great reminder — how often do we forget that happiness is a choice…sometimes that choice is easy to make, other times it’s harder given circumstances that pop up in life. It’s what you make of those situations and how you turn it around that matters. You are a real testament to that and SUCH a good influence on me in that regard, so thank you!! xoxo
PS. I love the pics of Billy, he is such a character!!

you’ve been through a whole lot in the past 4 months. I mean a lot! but what strength you gained from it has brought a new found happiness. And that my friend is a true blessing!

oh hell no! somebody stole your bike?!?! that is so….RUDE. Seriously! Glad to see that you’re happy in NYC. Give Billy a hug from me!!!!
Awesome – love this post. I love that you try to find happiness out of all circumstances. You don’t seem to dwell, but to find the pieces of positive and move forward. That’s very inspiring.
Such an interesting thing for someone to take their time to create on the sidewalk…and a great find
While happiness is present in so many aspects of our life right now, I still find myself needing these reminders to be gracious, grateful and patient. Living in the city can have its moments, as can being so far from my family, and now so far from the mountain-life that we enjoyed for a year. Thanks for continuing to share things like this – your pages (and posts through IIN!) are always refreshing.
