we stayed at our friends’ incredible brownstone in Park Slope over the weekend to watch their pets while they were out of town. Billy went over early Friday, and I worked 9am-1pm, picked up my new bike, packed my backpack, and hit the road.
I rode down the West Side Hwy, cut across City Hall, and ended up at the Brooklyn Bridge. I’ve walked and driven over this bridge before, but biking was new territory.
fiery hot outside, but bearable since you catch some good wind while riding over the water. and you can’t beat the views! the ride from our place to Park Slope is just about 6 miles. I arrived to find B experimenting in the kitchen. we played with the pets, and a friend joined us for dinner at a neighborhood restaurant.
it was almost 100 degrees outside on Saturday, but when we noticed some cloud cover, we hopped on our bikes and headed to Prospect Park.
I loved this park – plenty of wide open green space, and a great multi-purpose path.
we stopped at the Farmers Market, and picked up some kale.
another couple joined us for dinner Saturday night. B made empanadas, chorizo + cheese stuffed jalapenos, and a summery cocktail with fresh pineapple, homemade simple syrup, vodka and water. big hit!
we snacked on chips, carrots, and way too much hummus.
later we made a massaged kale salad (inspired by Spabettie’s kale chiffonade salad), adding avocado, orange pieces, and lemon juice to our version.
salmon and grilled shrimp, too. all delicious.
we relaxed yesterday, walked around the neighborhood, and rode back over the bridge in the evening. this was a fun little weekend getaway.
the best part of our weekend is that the couple who we were house/pet-sitting for got engaged Saturday night in Mustique – congratulations, friends! so excited for you!
