juice cleanse

August 2, 2012

starting on Monday of this week, I did a 3-day juice cleanse from BluePrintCleanse. I chose the Renovation since I’ve never done a juice cleanse before, and knew I’d appreciate a variety in the juices I drank throughout each day.

the box was delivered to my apartment last Sunday afternoon.

I was curious about the effects of a juice cleanse, but ultimately decided to do the cleanse as part of a review for work, and I want to note that it was complimentary . juice cleanses are expensive, averaging $200 for a 3-day cleanse.

as someone who loves to work out (in some form) most days of the week, I knew I would need to take extended rest time from my regular exercise routine. Fresh pressed juices don’t provide the nutrients needed to repair muscles after a workout, and the last thing I’m looking to do is intentionally lose any fat or muscle mass.

I did still ride my bike to work everyday, and of course there were headstands…

I was hesitant to do the cleanse at first, but figured 3 days wouldn’t affect me in the long-term, and I could stop the cleanse and resume eating if I felt extremely fatigued or hungry – I have a fast metabolism.

  • 6 juices each day, I drank mine from roughly 8:00am – 8:30pm

suggestions:

  • space your juices at least 1 hour apart
  • finish your last juice 2 hours before your bedtime
  • drink as much water as possible throughout the day (hot green tea is ok, too)
  • refrain from eating any solid foods

I took notes throughout each day and night to keep track of how I was feeling. I have a lot of information to potentially share here about the effects.

before I write a full review:

is there anything specific you would like to know about my experience?

We have an office guinea pig taking on this challenge, too! She started on Wednesday, and we’ve been asking her 100 questions. My biggest concern would be similar to yours – lack of energy for workouts (and, just getting through the day as an “active” person). Did you experience any notable fatigue?

Kind of cool that it’s all set out for you – you’re not having to plan and make your own all throughout the day. I guess my biggest worry would be fatigue. Do the juices include any protein?

  3. Great question concerning fatigue Heather. My question is this: Did your husband experience any side effects to your cleanse?

    • heehee! I was actually wondering too!

But more specifically – the mood factor. How were your emotions and also (maybe this is not the point of the cleanse BUT…) did you notice anything of a more spiritual nature shifting inside?

  4. (LOL love Billy’s comment!!). I think my biggest thing would also be fatigue, mood swings (I get downright ANGRY when I am hungry!) and just that – hunger. Were you wilty-hungry all day or were they good enough to keep you sustained? SO smart to take an extended rest period when you did this! Definitely want to hear your take!

I’ve always been curious about juice cleanses! Did you lose weight during the 3 days, or afterward? Did the juices taste good?

  6. I agree with the questions above – I would be concerned about lack of protein! Can you/did you add anything to the juices? Congrats on getting through it. ;)

Though I personally do not believe I could do a cleanse but am intrigued by them. Questions: hunger level, mood, energy, bathroom situation, etc you know… all of it! ha

  9. I LOVE Billy’s question, hehe ;-)

My question is similar to the others – energy levels during the cleanse. I think I’d have a hard time with my blood sugar dropping and getting that jittery-need-food-now feeling. Did that happen to you at all or did the juice give you enough to avoid that for the most part?

Headaches? Fatigue? Do you normally drink coffee? Because I would imagine the caffeine withdrawal alone for me would be enough… Did you find yourself focusing on food the entire time (that would be my worry) or did you find another mental sphere you didn’t know you had? Tell all.
