us lately

August 20, 2012

moving to NYC has been a great experience. we planned for a couple of months at the beginning of the year, took a leap, and road-tripped our way to Manhattan in April.

despite a couple of minor bumps along the way, we are thankful that things are working out for us here. we love our life, but that doesn’t mean everyday is perfect.

we do manage to have a lot of fun. I post a lot of those fun photos here.

we are best friends. we live in a small apartment. we see it all.

we react to each other. we annoy each other. sometimes over and over again.

but then remember we’re on the same team and we lovingly make up.

we (hopefully always) learn something.

we laugh a lot. we support each other. we love more than ever before.

it’s a cycle! and our relationship gets stronger each time. I believe that’s the key. we don’t break down or pull away. we communicate. we come together and we grow.

we are approaching our 2-year wedding marriage anniversary, and I fall more in love with my husband everyday. he’s my favorite person in the world, and we’ve been through a lot in our relatively short time together – 4 years this October.

during all the stages of our relationship – starting with a year of long distance, followed by a move to Belize, the unexpected loss of his dear father, a period of profound mourning and painful uncertainty, followed by a slow, steady rise to the realization that devastating sadness brings beauty, growth, and strength…

if you recognize it and embrace it.

so that’s what we’re doing. and we’re living a life we love. in a city we love.

it’s been a great 4 months in NYC, B! excited to see what the next 4 bring…

love,

p.s. today is my sister’s birthday – love you, B! <— there are so many Bs in my life

we are on the same team, yes! so important in marriage. teams get in fights, annoy each other, etc. But in the end, they love and adore each other because they are incomplete without one another. I love YOU TWO in NYC!

Beautiful Post! I love how you explained how your relationship moves in cycles. Through all the hard times and challenges we go through in relationships it only brings us closer. I’ve found my partner for life and your husband and yourself sound alot like us. We are going through a time when each side of our family is dealing with disease but it’s the comfort of knowing that our love is solid and reliable that makes this time easier.

Just came across your blog and love it! :)

thank you, Michelle! it makes me really happy to hear that your relationship is stronger through the difficult times rather than falling apart – which sadly happens to a lot of people. no matter what is happening outside of my marriage, Billy and I know that we are a team and we can get through anything! sounds like you have that, too. :)
