we spent our first night at the bed & breakfast, woke up to a leisurely Sunday morning, and although it was tempting to sit in the hammock all day, we decided to explore the area. we rode 6 miles (back up the mountain!) to a great hiking trail, the Spring Farm Trailhead in the Mohonk Reserve.

we had great weather!

we climbed the Bonticou Crag rock scramble, making our way to the top of the ridge.

a couple of breaks in the shade for snacks and hydration. we hiked about 6 miles.

the “million dollar view”.
after another night at the b&b with cocktails and a casual dinner, we packed up on Monday morning and biked back up the mountain. we stopped at the Mohonk Mountain House. gorgeous property. it reminded me of Kellerman’s in the movie Dirty Dancing. we looked around and were invited to come back for a complimentary weekend (maybe later this fall?) so I’ll post more about it after our stay.

we continued down the mountain and back into New Paltz where we stopped at the same taco shop, Mexicali Blue. perfect riding fuel.

another 10 miles on the bikes, across the Walkway Over The Hudson into Poughkeepsie, and back to the train station. whew!

I’ll be back with one more labor day post soon – you know, to share the lessons I learned and make a bird-like life analogy.
would you rather hike, bike, or both?
it was nice to do a combo of both to use different muscles.
what is your idea of perfect trail food?
trail mix. my favorite store-bought is the antioxidant mix from Whole Foods – dried cranberries, raisins, goji berries, almonds, walnuts, pepitas. we also brought turkey slices, baby carrots, crackers, hummus, etc. in a mini cooler.

WOW this looks freaking absolutely perfect!!! And it DOES remind me of Dirty Dancing too, that is gorgeous. I honestly have not truly hiked EVER but now would love to! That combo with biking looks so fun. Must investigate local trails for fall, I have decided

I think it’s amazing all that you saw and explored on this trip – and all on your BIKES, how cool are you two?? I have to ask though, how the heck did you pack for this trip?? I’d be at such a loss!

I meant to answer this last week! I packed my back pack with a couple of changes of workout clothes, socks, 2 tanks and undies for sleeping, and my toiletry bag with face wash, toothbrush, vitamins, etc. I wore one pair of shoes for the ride and didn’t bring another pair – I could have used some flip-flops, but it wasn’t too big of a deal.
what a pretty place to go, and how cool to ride your bikes all over. sounds like an awesome trip! i want to be adventurous like that one day!
you should! you’ve had some great travels and bike riding in Colorado – you could totally do a trip like this. just need to have a babysitter.
o my gosh!! you were literally right by me! i hike there every chance i can, mohonk is gorgeous in the fall!! castle in the sky!! truly one of my favorite places here. thats why i love living up here!

incredible that you live up there! it’s beautiful. I cannot wait to come back. we’re hoping to stay at Mohonk Mt House in October or November.
Wow, what an amazing trip! Sounds like my idea of a perfect vacation! I’m way more of a hiker than a biker if we are talking about trails. Mountain biking is not my forte. I have a tendency to fly over the handles for the most part.
I love hiking! I’m much better on my feet in the trails. our bike ride was on paved roads as we climbed the mountain – actual mountain biking scares me!
Dang those shorts look amazing on you. Each picture looks professional, you are such a talented photographer!
awww, Janae! you are such a sweetheart.
