a week of spontaneity and red wine.

October 12, 2012

when I got home from work on Tuesday, I was in the mood to go for a walk. Billy and I set out to stroll around our neighborhood and swing by the grocery store on the way home for food to cook for dinner…but then this happened:

a tiny tapas restaurant that we pass everyday lured us in on the cool, damp night. the friendly bartender let us taste all the reds and we snacked on marcona almonds.

on Wednesday, I got an invite from a friend to be her guest at the NY Coalition for Healthy School Food Fall Gala. the NYCHSF “introduces plant-based foods and nutrition education in schools to educate the whole school community”. they are changing the way that schools feed children. such a great event. live music, passionate, enthusiastic hosts, silent and live auctions, catered by Candle 79, Pure Food and Wine, Stogo, etc. I enjoyed every minute. ate a lot. left with a goodie bag.

after work on Thursday, I needed to run an errand near Union Square. Billy decided to meet me and we rode our bikes down through Washington Square Park on the way to our favorite place for pho. it was a perfect fall night – my favorite weather.

if you follow me on Instagram (dorrybird), you might have seen that we stumbled upon a perfect place for a glass of wine – Wine Spot – which turned out to have live music & a flamenco dancer. this is NYC, people! rad things happening all around.

summer rolls + piping hot pho for dinner, followed by a 2ish-mile bike ride home.

this was an unexpected week of fun new experiences. I can fall into a habit of leave work, stop at grocery store, ride home, change clothes, sit on couch. sound familiar? I’ve blogged about this before. clearly there’s a cycle, but I’m leaning towards more spontaneity and less routine. it’s the cooler temps and red wine cravings!

we’ll see what next week has in store…

how was your week? any spontaneous acts to share?

The NYCHSF thing sounds like such a wonderful cause. I love that! Looks like you guys had a great week – and sometimes those spontaneous days, meals, weeks are the best ;-)

  2. Man I need to take your lead on spontaneity!! I LOVE that you guys are constantly keeping it fun in your relationship…like you said, it can be SO easy to get into that routine ‘funk’ in the cooler months. Scott and I are trying hard to do the same — even if it just means a mid-week board games night vs. sitting on the couch watching tv or something. ANYTHING to keep the midweek doldrums from getting us down. Life is too short!

  3. I also need to take your lead! What a refreshing and lively week!! I love it. And wine cravings? Daily :-) I need to try pho!!!!!

My life is all about routine, Dorry. I don’t know how to break out of it! I go to work, work out, make dinner, watch some tv/read, then go to bed and do it all again the next day. I just started working full time in August, and it has been very hard to adjust. I’m always trying to save money so sometimes its hard thinking of things to do during the week…I’m glad to see your life has some spontaneity in it though :)
