Happy New Year! I actually have some things to say about the upcoming year, including exciting ideas that Billy and I are dreaming about, but first things first: when we returned to NYC on December 11th following vacation in Argentina, our time and energy was focused on friends, family, work, and getting healthy before we flew back to Dallas on December 19th. I had a couple hours of downtime while in Dallas to sort through photos and focus on recapping the trip, so here goes.
Billy and I went on a memorable trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina at the beginning of December. for the first two nights we stayed in Palermo at Jardin Escondido, a 6 bedroom house owned by Francis Ford Coppola. we previously stayed at his resort in Belize. the hospitality is hard to beat, like staying with family or close friends.

a traditional Argentine tea station, open bar and espresso machine.

the view from the courtyard…

where we were welcomed with warm homemade banana bread and fresh fruit.

we headed out to explore the neighborhood and found a café for a late lunch.
something fresh, something traditional – empanadas are B’s favorite!
after wandering the streets, we headed back to the hotel for a siesta since our dinner reservations weren’t until 9:00pm (early by Argentine standards).
our first dinner was at Unik, and the chef offered us a tasting menu based on our personal preferences. we also sipped cocktails made with their infused vodka.
organic gazpacho made from local tomatoes and almond milk soup with smoked fish. complex flavors! both were amazing.

shrimp with traditional Argentine romesco and slow-cooked pork ribs with potato.

main course – the best cut of beef I’ve ever had! a grass-fed rib eye with mashed potatoes and spinach, and red snapper with an olive tapenade. also both delicious.

berries and cream with pastry and chocolate ganache. we were stuffed!

but we went out with Billy’s brother after dinner to the well-known Faena Hotel, and then to Asia de Cuba for drinks and dancing. really fun first night!

breakfast the next morning at Jardin Escondido – fresh fruits and juice, pastries, jam, peanut butter, ham, cheese, a variety of cereal, and eggs to order from the kitchen.
that’s just the first 24 hours! we did not go hungry, in case you were worried.
it’s fun to re-live this vacation. I’ll be back with more…
did you travel during the holidays?

oh my gosh, what a FUN first 24 hours, let alone, trip!! this sounds like such an amazing experience! I want to go!! (tasting menu based on YOUR tastes?! how awesome!)
it was fabulous! and it’s only 2 hours time difference, so although the flight is 10 hours, you don’t have major jetlag.
ohhhhh gorgeous, all of it — the FOOD looks insanely delish, I love love love how your trip is sounding already, and this was just the first 24 hrs?? That’s fabulous. PS I can’t wait to hear what you’re thinking for 2013, you have me intrigued
I feel sort of silly recapping a month later, but I wanted to have it for memory’s sake! sounds like you and your sis should plan a trip to Argentina with your guys. maybe Billy and I will tag along.
I just always adore your post in photos. So vibrant. I feel like I was right there!
