Bird

Welcome! A bit about me:

I blog (clearly). I’m a freelance writer & when the opportunity strikes, a travel writer. I practice yoga, run, ride my bike, and love my husband, my family, picnics, and Pilates. My name is Dorry.

So what’s with “Bird”? Well, that’s the nickname I’ve been given by my husband who I, in turn, lovingly call “Bee“. I started this blog in June 2010 to express my passion for fitness & nutrition, and to document my travels and adventures.

Through recovery from disordered eating, I began to think of hunger as something much greater than solely being associated with food and eating. Since rethinking hunger, I now can appreciate food in ways I never knew possible. I shifted gears.

Hunger can be an unlimited resource for self-awareness, knowledge, passion, goals, growth, and healthy relationships.

I nourish my body with delicious, nutritious foods that fuel my active lifestyle.

And what happened to all that energy I used to spend trying to control everything in my life? Well, I direct that energy towards positive thoughts for nurturing relationships, writing, traveling, fitness, having fun, and fulfilling goals.

Rethinking Hunger – my 1st post

Top Posts – a compilation of favorite posts since the beginning

Flashback Friday – a series discussing an aspect of my past with disordered eating

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Communications. My work experience is varied, and I’ve been employed in the fields of education, real estate development, advertising, sales & marketing.

I took a course in the fall of 2010 to learn more about nutrition. I’m a certified Nutrition and Wellness Consultant with knowledge to share.

Nutrition plays a significant role in physical health, mental wellness, disease prevention, and healing.

Hi Dorry!
Just wanted to pop in and say hello. Love your thoughts on an “adaptable” office – I feel EXACTLY the same way. I’ve dropped to 3 days a week at a regular office from 5+ and it’s so much better but I can’t wait to NOT be behind a desk at all!

Have a great day!

Hi Dorry! I just found your blog on Healthy Living Blogs. I’m from Fort Worth, and I just submitted my blog to that site too! Anyway, your story is practically identical to mine, except you are a couple of steps ahead of me. Currently, I’m finishing up with taking the CPA Exams and about to begin a full-time career as an Auditor for one of the Big 4 Accounting Firms in Fort Worth. Well, through getting my Masters degree in Accounting, taking the exams and starting my blog back in May, I have discovered my true passion in life. I REALLY wish I could go back to college and get my degree in Nutrition. Anyway long story short, I have decided that I eventually want to be a Certified Health & Nutrition Consultant. I have been looking into Integrative Nutrition’s program, but I just wanted to ask what program you were using to get your certification. Thanks so much!! Love your blog by the way!
