Muscle tone is the amount of tension within a muscle required for maintain posture and positioning. It is regulated with the help of a simple reflex arc. Both decreased and increased muscle tone are bad for health.
Thus, its decrease causes joint laxity; the emergence of dislocations causes muscle weakening and shrinking. At the same time, an increased muscle tone, which usually affects the patients with global ischemia, usually leads to the muscle contractures and phantom pain.
Doctor often face with such condition as increased muscle tone. However, there is a medicine that can decrease it and relieve the related symptoms. This drug is called Soma, and you can easily buy it online.
Soma is commonly used in medicine (for example, during sports competitions and rehabilitation, as well as for the treatment of seizures and prevention of cardiovascular diseases). However, most patients use Soma (also known as Carisoprodol) to treat severe back pain caused by osteochondrosis. Apparently, there is nothing in common between disseminated sclerosis, low back pain attack, and pain caused by muscle strain. But actually, all of these conditions are caused by an increased muscle tone. Therefore, Soma can treat all of them.
Uses
Soma is intended to treat muscle cramps, hypertonia, as well as muscle stiffness and complex regional pain syndrome. Soma is commonly used in neurological practice, especially for the treatment of the following neurological and musculoskeletal conditions:
- Pathological changes in the brain or spinal cord, which cause spasticity – with ischemic stroke and intracerebral hemorrhage, with inflammation of the spinal cord, myelopathy, spinal cord stroke, with demyelinating diseases (disseminated sclerosis).
- According to the instructions, Soma can be purchased online and used for the treatment of chronic muscle pain caused by musculoskeletal disorders (dorsopathy, radicular pain resulting in swelling and decreased blood supply to the deep muscles of the back).
- Muscle injuries in athletes (for example, strains and sprains).
- Arthrosis, osteoarthritis, synovial inflammation, ligament injuries, muscle inflammation. In such cases, Soma can be combined with NSAIDs.
- In orthopedic surgery, Soma is used for rehabilitation after different back and joint surgeries.
- The drug is also intended for the therapy of peripheral artery diseases (such as arteriosclerosis obliterans and Raynaud syndrome).
You should know that Soma doesn’t reduce vascular tone. However, a muscle with a decreased tone requires less oxygen in conditions of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and venous insufficiency.
In rare cases, Soma is administered to coma patients (if this state is accompanied by the elimination of cerebral brain function or decerebrate rigidity).
Routes of administration and dosage
Always use Soma as prescribed by the physician. Each tablet should be taken with a full glass of water.
The maximum recommended dose of Soma is 1.400 mg per day (i.e. 1 tablet three times a day). Make sure to take the last dose right before going to sleep. The dose should be determined individually by the doctor based on the patient’s condition and severity of disease.
Interactions
Soma has a similar chemical structure to TCAs. Therefore, it produces a fatal interaction with MAO inhibitors, increases the effects of alcohol and CNS depressants, enhances the risk of convulsions in patients treated with Tramadol and inhibits the antihypertensive action of guanethidine and other antihypertensive agents.
What to do if you skipped the dose
If you missed a dose of Soma, don’t take extra tablet to make up for it. The maximum interval between the doses is 4 hours.
Overdosage
In most patients, overdosage with Soma is manifested in sleepiness and increased heart rate. Less common adverse reactions are body shaking, anxiety, comatose state, loss of muscle coordination, high blood pressure, slurred speech, confused state, vertigo, sickness, throwing up and delusion. Rare but potentially fatal symptoms of overdosage are heart failure, breast pain, irregular heartbeat, severe drop in blood pressure, NMS and seizures.
Contraindications and adverse effects
Like other skeletal muscle relaxants, Soma is contraindicated in patients with the diseases accompanied by decreased and increased muscle tone, for example:
- peripheral neuropathy;
- MG and congenital myasthenic syndrome (Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome, cancer);
- chronic muscle fatigue of any origin;
- pregnancy and breastfeeding (studies have not been done in these patient groups).
Children under 3 years old, as well patients allergic to carisoprodol, must not take Soma.
The adverse effects of Soma depend on the dose and can be manifested in muscle fatigue, apathy and hypotension. However, according to the instructions, Soma doesn’t make you drowsy and doesn’t affect your ability to drive. Therefore, it can be taken during the day.
The allergic reaction to the action of Soma can be manifested in different ways: from skin disorders to complex systemic diseases:
- hyperemia;
- hay fever;
- Quincke’s disease;
- tachycardia;
Patients who have hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients in Soma should not take this drug.
