Diabetes is an age-old disease that plagues the world with no real solutions in sight. It can be better classified as a chronic condition in which the body’s blood sugar suffers major discrepancies. - Bitter Gourd
Commonly known as Karela, bitter gourd taken in the form of juice is a proven cure for sugar. It works on the body as a whole with its anti-diabetic properties to cure the disease. 30 ml juice consumed every day on an empty stomach is the correct way to consume it. This juice can either be strained by oneself or purchased from the market. Make sure to check the content to be purely Ayurvedic.
Another way to incorporate bitter gourd into our meals is eating it as vegetable or making pickles. It may make karela less bitter, but also take away its natural goodness to some extent. It is advised that people in need of immediate respite consume bitter gourd as raw as they can.
- Triphala
Triphala is a famous Ayurvedic medicine used for not just diabetes, but a myriad of other health issues. It is easily available in the market – made by a handful of manufacturers and is not expensive as well. It is available in both powder form (churn) and juice. Two tablespoons mixed in or with a glass of water – two times a day is the ideal dosage. However, one can be flexible with it, depending on their condition.
It is bitter in taste, with a slight tang from the amla it carries. Regular consumption is recommended.
- Cinnamon
The spice cinnamon is a known kitchen remedy for skin problems. Not many may know of its Ayurvedic benefits in curbing blood sugar levels. It is easy to prepare as well. Add 3-4 tablespoons of cinnamon powder to a litre of water. Boil it, strain it. Drink this water every day.
Cinnamon helps in reducing insulin resistance. - Fenugreek seeds
Fenugreek (Methi) has always proved to be a stable solution for controlling the blood sugar. Being a high soluble fibre, it slows down digestion and absorbs carbohydrates – hence bringing down the sugar levels.
Ideal consumption involves grinding methi seeds to powder form and then consuming approx. 100 gm with a glass of water twice every day. Turmeric can also be added for better taste.
