Recovery from substance addiction is anytime going to be difficult.
However, when you want to go through the right path, you will have to choose the right method, the right person, and full determination and willpower. There are many recovery methods, but here we are going to be talking about the new program for addiction recovery.
This was first developed and started by Alcoholics Anonymous to get over the addiction and compulsions. The basic idea about this method is that people can help each other get out of this addiction by surrendering to a higher power. This might look like forcing ourselves for our good but many find it difficult to do so. Arrow Passage Recovery, located at Massillon, Ohio provides these services of addiction and dual diagnosis treatment. They too conduct these 12 step programs that we are talking about today in this article.
Now let us discuss more about this program. Here are the 12 steps to this program:
- To admit that we are powerless over the substance addiction
- We believe that there is a higher power that can help us in this situation
- We have decided that we are going to give our life control to the higher power
- Have taken everything about our personal inventory
- We have admitted to the high power about the wrongs that we and another person has done
- We are ready to accept any changes that will be done by our high-power regarding any shortcomings.
- We are ready for any shortcomings to be removed by the high power
- We will accept the wrong things done to others and try to amend things to feel better
- We will contact all the persons that we have caused harm to
- We will make sure that we take our personal inventory and admit if we are doing anything wrong
- Making a spiritual connection with the high power with a help of meditations and prayers
- We will support others going through the same addiction and talk to them about this method
About This Program:
This interactive session includes:
- Firstly, make the patients understand this process and ask them any questions and concerns. They are also given the freedom to choose their version of High power.
- The next session would be to ask the patient to join a community group of people who have come for recovery.
- The next time it would be for the patients to accept the first 3 steps i.e., to accept their problem, accept powerlessness, and surrender. They will also accept what a high power is for them and learn about the various defense mechanisms that are keeping them addicted to these substances.
- After this, here the patient will learn about the relationship between the sponsor and the sponsee and how important it is to make connections with each other.
Recovery is a method that requires daily maintenance of our spiritual program. This method will help us achieve it. It has now become the most important part of the substance rehab process. For people who are living in a world full of darkness and a foreboding place, this method will give them freedom and peace.
